Goa in October 2026: Weather, Festivals and What's Open

Quick answer
The 2026-27 season has opened, the rain is easing and the festival calendar is full. What's running in Goa this October and what to book ahead.
On this page
October is a good month for Goa if you want warm days, green hills and a calmer coast than December, with a chance of showers early in the month. The 2026-27 season has started, the festival calendar is full, and most of what paused for the monsoon comes back in stages through October.
Here's what is open, what the weather is doing and what to book before you land.
Is Goa good in October?
The season is under way. The first international charter flight of 2026-27 landed at Dabolim (GOI) on Wednesday 30 September 2026: an Aeroflot flight with 162 travellers from Yekaterinburg. That is earlier than in recent years, when charters usually began in the first or second week of October. A second Moscow charter was due on 4 October, and the operator expected to go from five to nine flights a week from mid-October.
Around 144 international charters are expected at Dabolim between October and March, from Russia and Kazakhstan, bringing close to 26,000 visitors. October sits between the quiet monsoon months and the Christmas and New Year rush, so it feels lively without being packed. Our guide to when to visit Goa compares the seasons.
What is the weather like in Goa in October 2026?
October is the tail end of the monsoon. On 1 October 2026 the India Meteorological Department (IMD) expected isolated to scattered rain over Konkan and Goa through 7 October. For the month as a whole, its outlook is below-normal rainfall for most of India and above-normal daytime temperatures.
In practice, plan for warm, humid days, the odd shower or thunderstorm in the first part of the month, and drier weather as October goes on. Pack light cotton, a compact umbrella and sandals that cope with a wet road. Some roads that took a beating in the rain may still be under repair, so leave extra time between stops. Our monsoon road guide covers what slows a drive down.
What's open in Goa in October?
Beaches and water sports
Beach water sports pause through the monsoon. Drishti Marine, the agency that runs beach lifeguarding in Goa, advises against swimming and water sports from June to the end of September, and red flags go up on the beaches. Operators restart as the sea settles, which usually happens across October, and November to February is generally the most comfortable stretch for a full beach holiday. Swim only where the lifeguards' flags allow.
Dudhsagar and the forest jeep
The jeep safari to Dudhsagar Falls from Collem stops during the monsoon for safety and restarts once the forest department opens the season. In 2023 the season was reported to start on 2 October. We have not seen an official 2026 date yet, so WhatsApp our team to check whether it is running before you fix the day. Our guide to Dudhsagar after the monsoon has the details.
Forts, churches and temples
Heritage stops are open through the year: Fort Aguada, the Latin quarter of Fontainhas in Panaji, the temples around Ponda, and the Old Goa churches, which are part of the Churches and Convents of Goa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986.
Goa festivals in October and early November 2026
Navratri, Sunday 11 to Monday 19 October. Temples around Ponda hold the Makharotsav, when the goddess is swung in a decorated makhar during the evening rituals. See Navratri at the Ponda temples.
Colva Fama, Monday 12 October. The statue of the Menino Jesus is brought down for veneration at Our Lady of Merces Church, Colva. See Colva Fama 2026.
Dussehra, Tuesday 20 October. A Goa public holiday. One day of leave on Monday 19 October gives you four days, Saturday 17 to Tuesday 20 October. Here's a three-day plan.
Vibrant Goa Global Expo and Summit, Thursday 29 to Saturday 31 October. A business event organised by the Vibrant Goa Foundation, with a Global Goan Convention on 30 October. If you're coming for it, an airport pickup and a car by the hour keep the days simple.
Diwali, Sunday 8 November. Goa's Diwali holiday. On the night before, Saturday 7 November, towns parade giant Narkasur effigies and burn them before dawn. See Narkasur and Diwali in Goa.
What should you book before you land?
Your airport pickup. This season's charters are scheduled into Dabolim (GOI), and domestic flights use both Dabolim and Mopa (GOX). Airport transfers show a clear fare for the whole car before you pay online; see the live fare on the booking page. Tolls, parking and airport charges are separate from the fare. Any standard airport toll appears as its own line before you pay; other tolls and parking are charged after the trip at actual cost, only when they apply. Staying up north? Our airport to North Goa guide compares the two airports.
A car for the day. A car with a driver by the hour comes in three packages: 8 hours and 80 km, 10 hours and 100 km, or 12 hours and 120 km. It suits October, because you can move a beach stop if a shower comes through. Our hourly car hire guide explains how the hours and kilometres work.
A day tour. Each private tour comes with a private AC vehicle, an experienced local driver and hotel pickup and drop:
North Goa Sightseeing Tour: Aguada fort and lighthouse; Candolim, Calangute and Baga; Anjuna and Vagator cliffs.
South Goa Sightseeing Tour: Colva and Benaulim; the Mangeshi and Balaji temples; the Old Goa churches.
Latin Quarter and Old Goa Trail: Fontainhas and the Old Goa churches in about 6 hours.
Dudhsagar Falls Safari: a 10-hour day, once the forest jeep is running.
For the Dussehra long weekend and the Diwali weekend, book as soon as your flights are fixed.
